During her recent visit to Armenia, Yvonne Franz, Senior Urban Researcher with the ReCity project and Academic Director of Kooperative Stadt- und Regionalentwicklung, Universität Wien, delivered a lecture for young researchers and students on “Public Urban Cultures of Care” and ways of approaching urban spaces through the lens of care.
A new collection of research articles titled Public Urban Cultures of Care, edited by Yvonne Franz and Anke Strüver (University of Graz), has recently been published. The volume explores how care emerges and evolves within urban environments, focusing on everyday interactions and infrastructures that support vulnerable populations, such as older adults in disadvantaged neighborhoods. Drawing on diverse European case studies, it examines how social networks, community centers, outdoor healthcare spaces, and informal support systems respond to challenges like demographic change and welfare restructuring.
